Cottage in Llanfihangel Glynn Myfyr (June/July 2024)

St. Michael’s Church House is located in Llanfihangel Glynn Myfyr. The cottage is a former school converted to a holiday accomodation. Everything you need and more is available in the holiday home.

Wednesday 26Jun2024: Flight to Manchester, transfer to Church house.
Thursday 27Jun2024: Hike to top of Mount Snowdon in Snowdonia National Park via Llanberis Path. This is the most accessible hike to the top, but still a strenuous one (15 km return trip, 950 meters elevation gain). Unfortunately a little over half way up the mountain we encountered a low cloud ceiling with fog, rain and gale force winds. Visibility at the top was around 50 meters.
Friday 28Jun2024: Visit to Anglesey South Stack lighthouse and birding area. This is on the South-West of Anglesey Island. Thousands of razorbills and gillemots, and 10-15 pairs of puffins nest on the cliffs. Afterwards we visited the beach of Newborough National Nation Reserve. We did not plan very well as Llanddwyn tidal Island is not accessible at high tide.
Saturday 29Jun2024: Due to bad weather (rain and fog) visit to the city of Conwy. During the return trip we made a short stop at Llanrwst to visit the Pont Fawr and Gorsedd Stone Circle.
Sunday 30Jun2024: Retry visit to Llanddwin tidal Island at low tide in the South-East of Anglesey.  Things to see: nice rockformations, 2 lighthouses, ruins of St. Dwynwen’s Church, 2 crosses. The walk is a 6 km roundtrip from/to the car park. Afterwards a short visit to Bryn Celli Ddu a bronze age tomb. Last visit of the day Trwyn Du Lighthouse, on the Northeast point of Anglesey.
Monday 1Jul2024: Drive to Mach Loop, but the weather was very bad (rain and low cloud ceiling). Afterwards we did a short walk along the Mawddach Estuary.
Tuesday 2Jul2024: Retry of the Mach Loop in a lot better weather. We climbed up Cad East this time. We saw exactly 3 training propellor aircraft passings, during a 5 hour stay.
Wednesday 3Jul2024: After leaving the Church House, we had some time left before our flight from Manchester to Amsterdam. We did short stops at: Gwrych Castle (1 hour), Basingwerk Abbey ruin (15 minutes), Flint Castle ruin (30 minutes)

Weekend trips during training in Copthorne (April 2011)

Copthorne is a village in the south of England, close to Gatwick. During the weekends we did short trips to several sights along the south coast. No information is left on the exact places we visited. But amoung others: Salisbury, White Horse hill carving and the Osmington White Horse, Avebury and Stonehenge Neolithic monuments, Corfe castle, white cliffs and the Durdle door.
Stay during off-time: Bournemouth Marriott Highcliff hotel.

Training in Copthorne (April 2008)

A few weeks training gives the opportunity to see some of the nice sites in southern England. Like: Stonehenge & Avebury, Leeds castle and bird show, and London city center.
